Cameroon has not yet legislated on crypto currencies and as such, no regulation or framework exists for the use or trade in crypto currencies. Regulation NO.01/11-CEMAC/UMAC/CM is one of the major legal frameworks to regulate electronic payment systems in Cameroon. Other regulations include;

 

  • Law on competition on internal markets in 1998 (NA_CIM, 1998)

  • Law on the prescription of minimum services in the communication sector in 2001 (NA_MSC, 2001).

  • 2010 Law relating to electronic communication (NA_EC,2010)

  • 2010 Law relating to electronic commerce (NA_eC,2010)

  • 2010 Law relating to the cyber security and the cyber criminality in Cameroon (NA_CSCC, 2010)

  • 2011 Law on consumer protection (NA_CP, 2011) Thus blockchain and digital asserts in Cameroon still remain a free market with massive investment opportunities. However, blockchain and digital asserts in Cameroon is subject to the following:

    1. Sales regulation

    2. Virtual currency regulation

    3. Taxation

    4. Money transmission laws

    5. Anti-money laundry requirements
